Becoming One, Being Plural, 2021

From 2020 to 2022, among other projects, I was concentrated on developing these works in Kintai Arts Residency. My jars or ‘containers’ are my attempt to create and shape a universe for cosmos where ‘the living bodies’ interact in this time and space in a way that everything make sense, being me ‘master’ and observer at the same time.
Communities start growing and popping up in everyday basis. Animals, plants share a body that I relate with my own personal and artistic investigation, they are plural and one at once. Within my everyday observations, I could see that this work was more and more related with me, my body, my search for belonging. This ‘simple’ complexity that I found in this ‘civilizations’ in my jars where everything is plural and one at the same time, showed me how important this theme is for me. In this body that I use being plural trying to become one.
This is a fragment of my observation diaries :
A journey.
Traveling with my body, being multiple in me.
Constantly moving in this unknown territory.
While creating a world in a jar, I become the observer,
I see no strange bodies, no exclusion.
A cosmos where all differences converge in one space,
where I belong, just belonging.
Becoming one, being plural.
2020년부터 2022년까지 독일, 프랑스, 오스트리아, 리투아니아에 머물며 수집, 제작한 에코스피어(ecosphere)를 기반으로 하는 프로젝트이다. 이 유리병, 이 ‘컨테이너’는 그 시공간 안에서 모든 것이 이치에 맞는 방식으로 상호작용하는 완벽한 우주, 코스모스(cosmos)를 창조하고 형성하려는 시도를 보인다. 그로서 작가는 마스터(master)이자 동시에 관찰자(observer)가 된다. 이 작은 커뮤니티는 매일 성장하고 나타나기를 반복하고 이 과정에서 개체의 다양성이 유지되면서 동시에 개체들은 하나의 몸(body)을 공유한다. 곧 다름을 유지하면서 동시에 하나가 되는 유리병 안의 ‘단순한 복잡성’은 원시적이지만 그 안에서 생계와 시스템을 지니고 하나로 존재하게 되는 것이다.
